In September, 2003, through the initiative and sponsorship of
Via Natura, the Ministry of the Environment of Ecuador authorized
the constitution of Terranova Foundation as a non profitable organization
committed with the conservation of the ecosystem and sustainable
development in the country.
Since then, Terranova has been helping in the prevention of deforestation
by elaborating forest inventories in Ecuadorian National Parks.
This is achieved thanks to the use of low frequency radars in
cooperation with FOI, a government agency of Sweden.
In the Galapagos Islands, we have initiated a conservation campaign
through the distribution of educational material with the participation
of schools and local communities. Our main purpose is that islanders
take conscience and respect for the ecosystem that surrounds them.
In addition to promoting donations onboard the MONSERRAT Yacht
in Galapagos, Via Natura´s commitment is to support with
Terranova´s administrative and operational costs, so that
all contributions received are invested entirely on projects.
